Usually, 13cm band is run by one person who doesn´t operate on another band. Maybe, it was a wasting with human resources. That´s why before UHF Reg.1 contest we made decision to change it. We decided to join 13cm and 9cm bands together. So that, both 13cm and 9cm bands were newly operated by one person.
I was nervous before the contest. I was still thinking about contest strategy. I thought that result on 13cm will be very poor compared to previous results because 9cm band will steal the time. On the other hand I felt opportunity to break our record thanks to high activity in UHF Reg.1 contest. Our the best result on 13cm was 17.800 points in June, 2011 contest. And the best one on 9cm was 4.660 points. I also wanted to keep standard result on 9cm at the same time. That was a big challenge for me!
Four hours after the contest beginning I felt that it´ll be very poor result on both bands. I felt really bad. I felt that I didn´t spend too much time on 13cm because I had to be on 9cm. And it was terrible to complete contacts on 9cm. How I was surprised when I compared current results with the old ones. Current result on 9cm was better than the old one and 13cm current result was very similar to the old one. It was really good motivation to achieve the best! HI
The last Saturday contact I made with Frank DJ5NQ on both bands at 23 GMT. The current score was 12.000 points on 13cm and 5.300 points on 9cm. I had problems to fall asleep because I was too much excited. Our 9cm record was broken! HI.
On Sunday at 6 GMT I woke up and made a contact with Anders SM7ECM on 13cm. At that time I didn´t know that it was just an hour and a half to make the ODX which we ever made on 13cm. It was the contact with Marc F6DWG/p JN19, 842 km. The next was F5REF/p JN19, 840 km.
It was a pity that we didn´t complete the contact with PA6NL on 9cm. I heard them very well but they didn´t hear us. We use just 12 Watts into 1.8 m dish.
There is the better equipment on 13cm. We use 130 Watts and 1.8 m dish. It´s easy to make QSO on 13cm compared to 9cm. The remarkable fact is that it was easy to make contact with a number of stations on 13cm compared to 23cm too! We had observed this fact during previous contests as well. It´s strange, HI.
I don´t understand why I had problems to make contact with guys from UR7D team, with Torben OZ3ZW or Walter IW3SPI. We had never had a problem to make contact before. We had to arrange a number of skeds to achieve completion of the contact with UR7D and Torben in this contest. Unfortunately, we haven´t made QSO with Walter in the end. We are very sorry that we didn´t hear to each other.
Finally, we made the score 24.000 points and 67 QSOs on 13cm (average distance is 360 km/QSO). The score on 9cm is 7.100 points and 30 QSOs (average distance is 238 km/QSO).
Surprisingly, we have broken the record on 9cm in The Czech Republic (6.876 points)!
It was a really exciting contest which I have never experienced!
